asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the rate of interest paid by the Government for short-dated loans to the Government during the years ended (a) 31st March, 1940, and (b) the 31st March, 1941.

In the financial year 1939/40 the average rate of interest paid on Exchequer Bills and on Ways and Means Advances was 2.961 per cent. per annum and 3.245 per cent. per annum, respectively. In the financial year 1940/41 there were no borrowings on Exchequer Bills and there was only one Ways and Means Advance, the interest rate on which was 3½ per cent. per annum.
