Vol. 86 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Eggs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that the current price paid for hen eggs in County Monaghan is ? per dozen, and whether he will take steps to effect an increase in this price in view of the prices being paid for eggs in Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, egg prices payable to producers are affected by the prices received for exports. There is no prospect of an increase in producers' prices in the near future, but the position will be watched with a view to securing an improvement as soon as it becomes possible to do so.

Is ? a fair price to the producer on the basis of the export prices at present obtainable?

I think at the moment ? is a fair price. There should be a slight, increase about the middle of June.
