Vol. 86 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit Claim.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what is the cause of the delay in paying unemployment benefit to Mr. Joseph Wolfe, 849 Rathfield Cottages, Newbridge.

Mr. Wolfe made application for unemployment assistance on the 14th ultimo and whilst the application was under consideration it became known to my Department that he had left his last employment of his own accord. A person who leaves his employment voluntarily without just cause is disqualified for the receipt of unemployment assistance for three months from the date on which he leaves. It was, therefore, necessary to have inquiries made for the purpose of determining whether Mr. Wolfe had reasonable cause for leaving his employment. These inquiries have now been completed and it has been decided that he had reasonable cause for leaving the employment. His application for unemployment assistance has accordingly been allowed and payment of all outstanding unemployment assistance will be made to him on Thursday next the 30th instant.
