Vol. 86 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Tea Ration.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that Miss McTeague, of Corlough, Bawnboy, County Cavan, a tea retailer with several hundred registered consumers refuses her customers tea on the grounds that she has supplies for them only during intermittent periods of a month or so, and if he will cause inquiries to be made in the matter.

I am not aware that Miss McTeague has refused to supply the appropriate tea rations to her registered customers and, as requested by the Deputy, I am having inquiries made in the matter.

What can she do if she has not the tea to give them?

asked the Minister for Supplies whether he is aware that Mr. O'Neil, Bridge Street, Belturbet, has been unable to obtain his tea ration for a considerable time; and if he will state why he has refused permission to Mr. O'Neil to obtain his tea ration from Messrs Divine and Company, Strabane, who have offered to supply it.

Mr. O'Neil was registered as a tea customer with a travelling van operated by Messrs. Divine and Company, Strabane, County Tyrone, from which they supplied the tea rations of a number of householders in the Belturbet area, and I am aware that, following the withdrawal of this van, Mr. O'Neil was unable to obtain his tea ration for a period. Permission to obtain supplies from Messrs. Divine and Company, Strabane, was not refused and no application for such permission was submitted. It has been arranged that a shopkeeper in the Belturbet area will supply the tea ration to Mr. O'Neil and other local householders who were formerly provided by the van service.
