Vol. 86 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Income.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is in a position to state what is the estimated national income of our people for the year ended 31st March, 1942.

No official estimates of national income have been prepared and, accordingly, no figure is available for the year to 31st March, 1942. All estimates of this kind are very approximate and, necessarily, contain large elements of conjecture. The latest official figures bearing on national income published in this country are those for industrial production for the year 1940 published in the Irish Trade Journal for March, 1942, and those for agricultural output for the year 1939-40 published in the Irish Trade Journal for June, 1941.

Will the Minister say if the figures in respect of industrial output and agricultural output include the amount of indirect taxation?

I could not say.
