Vol. 87 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of County Dublin Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is proposed to divide the remainder of the Kinsella estate, Clonmethon, Oldtown, at the end of November next; and also if it is proposed to have local landless men and uneconomic holders considered and, failing this, if the land will be let for tillage purposes only.

Arrangements have not yet been made for the disposal of the residue of 228 acres in the hands of the Land Commission on the Kinsella estate and it is not possible to state when these lands will be allotted.

Of the area on hands, approximately 180 acres are arable. This area was offered for tillage this season but the Land Commission succeeded in letting only about 96 acres. As there were no further applicants for tillage the balance of the lands was let for grazing.

asked the Minister for Lands what he proposes to do with the Thunder estate (Eyre Coote), Rowlestown, and if he is aware that there are sufficient men in the area, both landless and uneconomic holders, who have a little capital and machinery, and are anxious to obtain holdings, and who would utilise such holdings to the fullest advantage in the production of food, and who would also give employment.

Arrangements have not yet been made for the final disposal of the residue of 70 acres in the hands of the Land Commission on the Thunder estate in the townland of Rowlestown East. I would remind the Deputy that 203 acres of the 273 acres acquired by the Land Commission on this estate have been divided amongst local applicants. It is probable that the area left on hands will be allotted to a migrant whose lands are needed for the relief of congestion elsewhere.
