Vol. 87 No. 6

Written Answers. - Acquisition of County Mayo Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that acute congestion exists in the townlands of Caraun, Knockatubber, Cartonacross, Claremorris; that Mr. Prendergast, owner of the Prendergast estate, offered the lands and bogs on the said estate to the Land Commission over two years ago for the relief of the existing congestion, and if the Minister will now state the cause of the delay, or if it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire the estate.

The Land Commission had inquiries made regarding the lands of Caraun, owned by Mr. Richard Prendergast, but they find it necessary, in the present emergency, to postpone consideration of the question of the acquisition of the lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a large number of tenants of the Land Commission in the Electoral Divisions of Ballindine, Claremorris, Crossboyne and Caraun whose bog plots are exhausted are without turbary, and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Land Commission to acquire the large tract of vacant bog on the Oranmore and Browne estate, Castlemacgarrett, for the purpose of providing turbary for such tenants.

The Land Commission are not taking proceedings for the acquisition of bog on the Oranmore and Browne estate, Castlemacgarrett.
