Vol. 87 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballina Tenants' Loan.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received from 44 tenants in St. Muredach's Terrace, Ballina, a proposal regarding the annual payments due by them to the Board of Works in respect of a loan of £4,456 15s. 7d.; whether they have proposed the spreading of their payments over a period of 34 years so as to reduce the annual amount to £131 1s. 8d., and whether, in view of the present economic conditions of the tenants caused by unemployment and rising prices, he will favourably consider the proposal so as to enable the tenants to meet their liabilities and ensure that the amount falling due will be paid as and when it becomes due.

A communication of the nature referred to has been received. The Commissioners of Public Works have, however, no contractual or other relations with the tenants of the houses. The loan in question was made to the Ballina Urban District Council in the period 1913-1917 under the Housing of the Working Classes Acts.
