Vol. 87 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workman's Claim Against Army.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Defence if he will make inquiries as to the cause of the refusal of the Army authorities to pay the sum of £5 10s. 0d. being bus fare and travelling time claimed by John O'Rourke, employed at Baldonnel from the 10th March to the 15th April; and if he is aware that the amount claimed is in accordance with the trade union regulations recognised by the Army and the workers concerned.

Owing to a misunderstanding regarding the actual conditions of employment in the case of John O'Rourke, Plasterer, employed at Baldonnel, a claim submitted by him for the payment of bus fare and travelling time was rejected. Following a recent detailed examination of all the circumstances of the case it has now been decided to pay bus fare and travelling time to this man in respect of the period of his employment from 10th March, 1942, to the 15th April, 1942, and arrangements are being made accordingly.
