Vol. 88 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Elections in County Dublin.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the local bodies in County Dublin for which it is intended to hold elections in the present year.

The local bodies in County Dublin for which elections will be held in the present year are the Corporation of Dun Laoghaire and the Town Commissioners of Balbriggan. It is proposed to merge Howth in Dublin City as from the appointed day and consequently no election will be held for that local authority. Dublin County Council was dissolved on 27th September, 1941, and it is not proposed to hold elections in the county. Consequently there will be no bodies appointed for either Balrothery or Rathdown Boards of Assistance.

Does the Minister mean the Borough of Dun Laoghaire?

The Corporation of Dun Laoghaire.

Will the Minister be prepared to explain his attitude with regard to the holding of elections in County Dublin when he is dealing with the Local Elections Bill?

If it is relevant—I do not know at the moment whether or not it would be.

It will be very relevant.

Is there not an amendment on that line?

Whether it is relevant or not is another matter.

I have not been told that it is not.
