Vol. 88 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deposits of Barytes in West Cork.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the good market now obtaining for barytes, he will have a survey made of the West Cork deposits of that mineral with a view to re-opening an industry which was once prosperously worked along the southern seaboard.

The barytes lodes in West Cork were examined and mapped by the Geological Survey in 1919. A further examination is not likely to add materially to the information already available. Whilst the development of the deposits is a matter for private enterprise, every possible assistance will be given by my Department to any interested person.
