Vol. 88 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Central Drainage Authority.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is in a position to say when it is proposed to set up the central drainage authority recommended by the Drainage Commission, and the functions which will be undertaken by such authority.

The establishment of a central drainage authority must await the enactment of the legislation necessary to give effect to the recommendations of the Drainage Commission which, as indicated in my reply to the question by Deputy O'Sullivan on the 20th November last, have been accepted in principle by the Government. The Bill is in course of active preparation. As regards the nature of the functions which the central drainage authority may be required to undertake, I would refer the Deputy to the report of the commission.
