Vol. 88 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Managers' Salaries.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the salary and allowances of each county manager appointed by him under the County Management Act, giving the joint salary and allowances in the case of amalgamated counties.

Lest the Deputy is under the impression that each county manager was appointed by the Minister for Local Government and Public Health, I would refer him to the provisions of Section 4 of the County Management Act, 1940. I would also draw his attention to a Departmental statement sent for publication in the public Press on the 26th August last correcting a misleading statement to the same effect which appeared in a newspaper on the 24th August.

There was only one county manager appointed by the Minister. He was appointed temporarily for the grouped counties of Sligo and Leitrim, pending the selection by the Local Appointments Commissioners of the first county manager for these counties. His salary is £1,000 a year, divided equally between the two counties for which he is acting temporarily.
