Vol. 88 No. 13

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fuel Supplies in County Dublin.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that Swords and district has been without fuel, either turf or timber, for the past week; that the poor and working classes have had no firing in this area for over a week, and that this is due to the fact that Mr. J. Savage, fuel merchant (lorry No. Z.9051), received no petrol coupons for October although he received a permit; and further if the Minister will take immediate action to remedy this state of affairs.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regards Mr. J. Savage, on the recommendation of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance, an allowance of 30 gallons of petrol was granted to him on the 22nd September exclusively for the transport of turf. Before any further allowance could be considered, however, Mr. Savage should have furnished particulars to show how that allowance was used. Such particulars were not furnished until the 23rd instant, and, on the basis of these, a further allowance of 30 gallons was granted to Mr. Savage on the 28th instant. In addition to the foregoing, a special allowance of ten gallons of petrol for the transport of turf in Swords has also been granted to Mr. Savage.
