Vol. 88 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol and the Christmas Trade.

asked the Minister for Supplies whether it is possible to make an allocation of petrol to Dublin provision merchants during the month of December to enable them to attend country fairs to buy fowl and convey them to Dublin for the Christmas trade.

Owing to the seriousness of the petrol position generally, and the uncertainty as regards future supplies, I regret that it is not possible to make an allocation of petrol to Dublin provision merchants during the month of December to enable them to attend country fairs to buy fowl and convey them to Dublin for the Christmas trade. From inquiries I have made, I am satisfied that orders by Dublin merchants for poultry for the Christmas trade can be met without the individual personal attendance of merchants at fairs.
