Vol. 88 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Red Cross Requirements.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is prepared to grant to branches of the Irish Red Cross Society who apply for same, permits to purchase materials to make bandages, dressings and other apparel required by the Red Cross.

Arrangements have been made with the Irish Red Cross Society for the grant of coupon-equivalent licences by my Department to enable uniforms to be supplied to members of the society without their having to surrender their own clothes coupons. Surgical bandaging material and surgical dressings are excluded from the operation of the Clothes Rationing Orders and no licences are required for their purchase. Where other bandaging materials (e.g., calico) have to be purchased, coupon-equivalent licences may be applied for.
