Vol. 89 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether, in view of the keen local demand by uneconomic holders and landless men, he will indicate whether the Land Commission propose to take steps to acquire the lands of Mr. Thomas Mathers, Rabbitfield, Edenderry; the Kingston-Smith lands at Clonmeen, Edenderry; and the lands of Mr. H. Potterton, at Carrick, Edenderry.

Owing to the emergency conditions the Land Commission are not prepared to consider the question of the acquisition of the lands which the Deputy mentions. I have explained on several occasions that in present circumstances the Land Commission are not in a position to undertake fresh commitments of this kind.
