Vol. 89 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emergency Fuel Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the number of persons who are benefiting under the Emergency Fuel Scheme in the County Borough of Dublin; and the amount of fuel which is being distributed weekly.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is in a position to say when fuel will be available for distribution to necessitous families, under the Emergency Fuel Scheme.

I propose to take Questions 18 and 19 together. The number of persons whose households are benefiting under the Emergency Fuel Scheme in the County Borough of Dublin is approximately 24,000. The amount of fuel which is being distributed weekly to such households is close upon 1,200 tons. Owing to the magnitude of this scheme considerable organisation was involved, and it has not so far been possible to make provision for supplying persons of low income, but the board of assistance are making every effort to do so before Christmas.

Will the Minister consider the men to whom I referred last week who are in receipt of 10/6 per week and who live alone?

It is not possible to extend the scheme any further.
