Vol. 89 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Junior Teachers.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the special difficulties of junior members of the teaching profession consequent on the rise in the cost of living; and what steps he proposes to take to overcome their special difficulty.

The question of increased pay for the members of the teaching profession referred to by the Deputy, in common with certain other classes of public servants, is under consideration.

May we reasonably hope that an announcement in regard to this matter will be contemporaneous with the announcement which the Minister for Finance has undertaken to make in connection with junior civil servants?

I think that would be a reasonable expectation.
