Vol. 89 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Issue of Government Advertisements.

asked the Minister for Supplies to state (a) if the Dundalk Examiner is given advertisements in connection with supplies, prices, emergency powers, etc.; if so, to state (b) the average weekly amounts paid to the Dundalk Examiner for such advertisements in the past six months; and (c) the extent of the circulation of the said newspaper.

Official advertisements are inserted in the Dundalk Examiner by the Department of Supplies in connection with price and other Emergency Powers Orders. The average weekly amount paid in respect of advertisements inserted in that newspaper during the six months ended on the 31st October last was £4 11s. 8d.

As I informed the Deputy on November 5th, in reply to a previous question, I do not consider that I am at liberty to disclose the information furnished to me concerning the circulation of newspapers, which must be regarded as having been supplied in confidence by such newspapers for the convenience of the official Government contractors.

The Minister for the Co-ordination of Defensive Measures is a director of that paper.
