Vol. 89 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Establishment of Oatmeal Company.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state the purpose for which he has set up the new company, Oats (Ireland), Limited, and the names of the members of the company.

I did not set up the company, Oats (Ireland), Ltd., but its formation was suggested by my Department to the Flake Meal Millers' Association, in the belief that a central body would be more successful in procuring oats for oatmeal production than individual millers.

As regards the last part of the question, the names of the directors of the company may be obtained on application to the Companies Registration Office, Dublin Castle.

Can any miller in the country, bona fide employed in the manufacture of oatmeal, become a participating member in Oats (Ireland), Limited, on application to the company?

I suggest that the Deputy should direct that question to the company.

If the company is to control the import of oats——

It does not.

Is not that what they have been doing?

You stated that they have been doing it.

I did not.

Are not they arranging for the distribution?

I decided that the cargo would be sold to this company.

Can any miller share in the benefits of this company by applying for membership?

The Deputy should ask the company.

Will the Minister say if he set up the company?

In my reply I said that I did not set up the company.

You suggested that it should be set up.

Ministers and Deputies must be addressed as such and not in the second person.

Did the Minister do that without ascertaining who could be members of the company?

The members of this company are the members of the Flake Oatmeal Millers' Association.
