Vol. 89 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increased Wages for Road Workers.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has received repeated requests from the Leix County Council to sanction the increased rates of wages granted to road workers and gangers from last November, and if he will now agree to do so; further, if he will now state whether he will also sanction the increased rates of wages recommended to road overseers, or state the cause of the delay in doing so in both cases.

As regards the first part of the question the reply is in the negative. As regards the latter part, there have been no such proposals received in my Department.

May I ask the Minister whether the members of the local authority are supposed to be still in charge of this matter and, if so, why does he refuse to sanction the agreement that was come to between the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union and the other parties concerned?

That is a separate question.
