Vol. 89 No. 13

Committee on Finance. - Accidental Fires Bill, 1943—Committee and Final Stages.

Bill considered in Committee.
Sections 1 to 3, inclusive, and Title, agreed to.
Agreed to take the remaining stages now.
Question proposed: "That the Bill be received for final consideration."

Mr. Byrne

Would the Minister say whether this measure is doing anything that will injure the interests of the victims of a fire that took place within the last month in the Daisy Market of the Dublin Corporation? A number of stall-holders had their property burnt. They were paying rent to the Corporation for the stalls and the Corporation had a watchman there to protect them. The Corporation accepted their rents. Their goods were damaged. Is there anything in this Bill to prevent these people now taking an action against the Corporation for compensation?

There is nothing in this Bill that affects that situation, so far as I understand it.

Question put and agreed to.
