Vol. 91 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Coast-Watching Station.

asked the Minister lor Finance if he will state the reason for the delay in making payment to John Harrington, Galley Head, Clonakilty, in respect of the erection on his lands of a coast-watching station and the taking over of certain rights way; and when payment of the claim will be made.

Mr. Harrington's case is one of a number in which the completion of purchase of a small plot of ground necessitates the investigation of title and other legal formalities which would involve legal costs out of all proportion to the value of the plot. Measures to simplify the procedure are under active consideration.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary explain why this matter has been hanging fire for about three years?

I was not aware of the length of time that this matter was hanging fire, but I understand that there were many legal difficulties which had to be overcome, and we are doing our best to overcome them.
