Vol. 91 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Stud at Tully.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the nature of the financial arrangements between the British and Irish Governments arising out of the transfer of the National Stud at Tully, Kildare, to Britain, and what steps have been taken to safeguard the employment of the workers at Tully pending the establishment of an Irish - owned national stud.

The financial arrangements referred to are still under discussion, and it would, therefore, be premature for me to make any statement in the matter at this stage.

Would the Minister reply to the second part of the question?

I said it would be premature to deal with the matter at the moment.

Would the Minister give an assurance, on the information available, that there is every prospect that those employed in the National Stud will be retained?

The Deputy knows that this will be taken into consideration, but I could not give him any assurance.

Would the Minister say that there is any danger that they might lose their employment?

I do not see any danger.
