Vol. 91 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Facilities in County Dublin.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that an urgent necessity exists for a public telephone in Glencullen village; that in the event of a doctor, nurse or priest being required urgently, Glencullen is completely cut off; and if in view of this he is prepared to have a public phone installed in Glencullen village in the near future.

I regret that this request cannot be favourably entertained. Apart from considerations of cost, the provision of public telephone service at Glencullen would involve the use of an abnormal amount of engineering materials which, on account of the acute shortage of supplies, could not be spared at present. It is not accurate to say that in the event of a doctor, nurse or priest being required urgently Glencullen is completely cut off as there is a private telephone to the priest's house.

As regards the remaining questions, answers will be furnished in the reports of the debates unless the Deputies concerned express a desire to have their questions repeated.
