Vol. 91 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Gas Supply.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is prepared to make representations to the Alliance and Dublin Consumers' Gas Company with a view to an extension of the present hours of supply of gas in Dublin, with particular reference to the morning and evening periods.

I am informed by the Alliance and Dublin Consumers' Gas Company that it is only with the greatest difficulty that the company can maintain the existing restricted hours of supply, and there is no hope of an extension of these hours.

Mr. O'Sullivan

Arising out of the Minister's reply, I am sure that as one of the representatives of Dublin City, he is aware of the importance of this question to the citizens in general. Would he say if an extra half-hour in the morning or a half-hour in the evening would involve tremendous commitments so far as the gas company is concerned? Is there any possibility, having regard to the time restriction, that at least an extension of the kind suggested could be granted without seriously upsetting the present arrangement?

There is no possibility whatever of an extended supply.
