Vol. 91 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Westport Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the land known as the Crotty estate, Kinnewry, Westport, has been recently sold by private treaty and that the owner is willing to hand it over to the Land Commission at the price he paid for it; and whether he will acquire and divide this land immediately.

The Land Commission are aware that the lands of Kinnewry in the occupation of Miss Crotty have been sold, but they are not aware that the purchaser is willing to hand them over to the Land Commission at the price he paid for them. The Land Commission have not come to any decision regarding the acquisition and division of the lands, but the matter is under investigation.

Is the Minister aware that the present purchaser of this land is willing to hand it over to the Land Commission at the price he paid for it, which was in or about £700, and that there will be serious local trouble if something is not done in regard to the acquisition and division of this land?

I am not aware of that.

It will take, probably, 17 years for the Land Commission to deal with it.
