Vol. 91 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Liffey Motor Ferry.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that the Dublin Corporation Liffey motor-ferry, licensed to carry 41 passengers, has on occasion been dangerously overcrowded and that a second ferry is necessary for the safety and convenience of quay workers going to and from their work; and whether he will allocate to the Dublin Corporation an additional 60 gallons of petrol monthly, for the operation of a second boat.

In consultation with representatives of the Dublin Corporation, an allocation of petrol sufficient to maintain a reasonably efficient motor-ferry service on the Liffey was made available in April, 1942, and notwithstanding the deterioration in the supply position since then, the allowance has not been reduced. I am, however, having the position further examined.
