asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the quantity of purified mussels exported by the Sea Fisheries Association from Cromane, County Kerry, since the 1st October, 1940, to date; and, also, if he will recommend enlarging the purification tanks so that the fishermen who were previously refused as suppliers may be facilitated.

The output of purified mussels from the Cromane purification plant during the period 1st October, 1940, to 31st October, 1943, was 46,700 cwts. As this plant is an experimental one, the economics of which under normal market conditions have yet to be ascertained, I cannot see my way to recommend expenditure upon its extension at present.
