Vol. 91 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nurses' Uniform Allowance.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether the child welfare nurses employed by Dublin Corporation have been granted the £15 per annum uniform allowance; and, if not, if he can state the reasons for the delay.

The proposals of the Corporation to grant an allowance to nurses in lieu of uniform included nurses employed on other duties as well as child welfare. The full proposals have been sanctioned.

Will the Minister state when these nurses will get the money in lieu of uniforms? They are waiting to buy protective winter clothing, waterproofs and so forth, and these goods are rapidly going off the market. It is causing very great hardship to these women and the sooner the money can be paid the better.

I cannot say more than that, the proposals having been sanctioned, the allowance will be, probably, paid at the earliest convenient accounting date.

I hope the Minister will hurry it up as much as possible.
