asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the classifications of assessments to surtax made for the years 1938-39, 1939-40, 1940-41, 1941-42, 1942-43, in accordance with the classification set out in Table 128 of the 13th Annual Report of the Revenue Commissioners.

The statistics of surtax assessments are not compiled at present on precisely the same lines as Table 128 of the 13th Annual Report of the Revenue Commissioners. The annexed table sets out, in the form in which such statistics are at present compiled, the classification of surtax assessments, made at the 30th September, 1942, in respect of the years 1938-39, 1939-40 and 1940-41.

It is important to note that the particulars in this table for any given year are subject to variation according as further assessments are made and existing ones adjusted. This fact applies especially to the figures for the later years in respect of which, at the 30th September, 1942, an appreciable number of assessments remained to be made.
