Vol. 91 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Issue of Boots and Coats to L.S.F.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will make arrangements for the issue of (a) boots and (b) greatcoats to members of the L.S.F., having regard to the fact that the men concerned are unable to procure boots at the price allowed for that purpose, and that many of these men have very small incomes and are unable to provide themselves with either footwear or greatcoats suitable to the present weather conditions.

I regret that, owing to supply difficulties, it has not been possible up to the present to make arrangements for the provision of boots and greatcoats for members of the L.S.F. I am having the matter reviewed, however, with a view to securing, if possible, an improvement in the position.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, is he not aware that the majority of attendants on patrol duty for the L.S.F. are either unemployed or semi-employed men, and, having regard to that fact, will he do what he can to see that these people are provided with boots and greatcoats?
