Vol. 92 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol Allocations.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state in respect of (1) the period ending 31/12/42 and (2) the ten months' period ending 30/10/43 (a) the amount of petrol allocated to the Great Southern Railways for road merchandise haulage (as distinct from road passenger services); (b) the amount of petrol allocated to merchandise licensed haulers for public haulage excluding railway owned licensed trucks, and (c) the amount of petrol allocated for use in private lorries, excluding those used for bread, milk and other small goods, and also excluding petrol allocated to gas producer trucks for priming purposes.

The statistics relating to petrol distribution are not compiled in the detailed form required by the Deputy and I do not consider that such compilation would justify the time and expense involved.

The Deputy does not state the period ending 31st December, 1942, for which he requires information and, consequently, I cannot deal with that part of his question. For the ten months ended 30th October, 1943, the amount of petrol allocated to the Great Southern Railways for road merchandise haulage was 552,000 gallons. The amount of petrol allocated in the same period to all other owners of commercial goods vehicles was 3,300,000 gallons.

Mr. Larkin

Would that be in addition to the amount of petrol pumped into the river during the last couple of days?

That is a separate question.
