Vol. 92 No. 2

Private Deputies' Business. - Allowances to Blind Persons—Motion.

Mr. Byrne

I move the motion standing in my name and in that of Deputy Alfred Byrne (Junior):—

That Dáil Eireann is of opinion that the allowances to blind persons are totally inadequate, and requests the Government to introduce amending legislation that will permit the total payments from all sources to be increased.

If ever any section of the community deserved consideration at the hands of an Irish and a Christian Government, that section of the community are the blind persons in our midst who, in many cases, are suffering very grave hardships. It was on their behalf, I put down this motion.

Is the Deputy addressing himself to motion No. 1 or motion No.-2?

Mr. Byrne

No. 1.

It was arranged that motion No. 2 would be taken to-night.

It was pointed out that the Minister is engaged in the Seanad and could not take No. 1.

As mover of motion No. 2, I must say I never heard a word about it.

It was stated after Question Time that the Minister was engaged in the Seanad and that No. 1 could not be taken.

It was arranged to take No. 2.

Should not notice of that have been given to the mover, of the motion?

It was presumed the Deputy would be in the House.

Deputy Alfred Byrne (Junior) to move motion No. 2.
