Vol. 92 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transactions in Great Southern Railways Company Shares.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the abnormal volume of dealings in Great Southern Railways Company securities during the last nine months and the impending reconstruction proposal, he will, if necessary by Emergency Order, require the company to furnish for the information of Dáil Éireann a schedule of all dealings in the company's shares since January 1st, 1942.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether it is his intention to order the holding of a public inquiry into the Stock Exchange dealings in the several stocks of the Great Southern Railways Company between March 3rd and October 29th, 1943, with particular reference to such transactions as were represented by purchases and sales by banks acting as agents or trustees for undisclosed customers; and, if so, when such inquiry will be instituted.

I propose to answer questions Nos. 6 and 7 together. I refer the Deputies to the motion on to-day's Order Paper for the appointment of a tribunal of inquiry.

Am I to understand that the terms of the motion on the Order Paper do not preclude the investigating body from requiring the production of the share register of the company back as far as January 1st, 1942, for the purpose of comparison?

The Deputy will have an opportunity of putting that question to the Minister when the motion comes up for discussion.

Will the motion be taken to-day?

Yes, if the House agrees.
