Vol. 92 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bray Auxiliary Fire Service Accident.

andMr. Everett asked the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defensive Measures whether he is aware that on the 25th September, 1943, four members of the Bray A.R.P. Auxiliary Fire Service, Edward Murray, Thomas Tobin and Thomas Doyle, all of St. Kevin's Square, Bray, and Joseph Everard, Little Bray, were injured in an accident at Patchwork, Bray, during training exercises; that all four, who are married men, in addition to suffering the loss of their wages, are, with their dependents, in a state of destitution as a result of unemployment following the accident; and whether he will state if these men will receive compensation under the A.R.P. Services Compensation Scheme; and also whether, in view of the hardships sustained by the men involved, he will expedite the payment of compensation and arrange for an immediate interim grant.

I have been notified that the four men mentioned in the Deputies' question were injured in an accident on 25th September, 1943. Claims were not received until the 11th and 12th November. Instructions for the making of interim payments have been issued in the cases of three of the men, viz.: Thomas Tobin, Thomas Doyle and Joseph Everard. In the case of Edward Murray, I have not yet received any evidence of his membership of the A.R.P. Auxiliary Fire Service. I can assure the Deputies that everything possible will be done to secure an immediate payment to Mr. Murray as soon as satisfactory evidence of membership of the A.R.P. Auxiliary Fire Service is produced.
