Vol. 92 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of County Kerry Piers.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when the Office of Public Works intend to repair or improve the piers at (a) Glen Cove, (b) Rineen, (c) Kilkeveragh, (d) Portmagee, all in the Barony of Iveragh and County of Kerry, and if he is aware that for a considerable time past these piers require to be repaired or improved.

None of the piers referred to is in the charge of the Office of Public Works. That Office has, however, been asked to report on the carrying out of works at Glen Cove, Kilkevaragh and Portmagee, but before any recommendations can be made, it will be necessary to have engineering inspections undertaken at all three places. It is not possible to state at present when the necessary inspections can be made.

As regards the case of Rineen Pier, I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to a similar question in the matter on 1st December, 1943.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say if the inspection will be carried out before next June?

I should not like to tie myself to any particular time, but I can assure the Deputy that no undue delay will take place.
