Vol. 92 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Edenderry Town Rates.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has sanctioned the action of the commissioner administering the affairs of the Edenderry Town Commissioners in demanding the payment of town rates from cottage tenants residing outside the town boundary; whether he is aware it is alleged that his action is a breach of the tenancy conditions originally agreed to by those concerned, and if he will request the commissioner to amend the demand notes to the figure previously paid to the town commissioners.

I have no power to sanction the making or levying of any rate by any rating authority, but I may inform the Deputy that there is no power vested in any rating authority to levy a rate on any hereditament situate outside its functional area. In this case I am very doubtful if the facts stated by the Deputy correctly represent the position.
