Vol. 92 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clare County Council.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health when he proposes to hold an election for a county council for the administrative County of Clare.

There is no proposal under consideration at present for the holding of an election of the Clare County Council. The time for holding an election is governed by Section 45 of the Local Government Act, 1941.

The section empowers the Minister to hold an election. Will he indicate when he intends to put this power into operation, or why he does not put it into operation at the moment?

As soon as I am satisfied that the public services in County Clare have been fully reorganised and are functioning properly, I will authorise the holding of an election.
