Vol. 92 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Veterinary Surgeon for Clonakilty.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the reason for the delay in the appointment of a veterinary surgeon for the Clonakilty Rural District, and when it is proposed to make this appointment.

This appointment comprises the two separate posts of veterinary inspector under the Diseases of Animals Acts and veterinary inspector for public health duties. Certain legislative and administrative difficulties in the way of filling vacancies in this class of office were encountered when Part II of the Local Government Act of 1941 was brought into force and temporary appointments were made. These difficulties have now been resolved and the filling of the existing vacancies is being proceeded with. It is expected that the vacancy in the Clonakilty office will be advertised by the Local Appointments Commission very soon.

Can the Minister say what he means by "very soon"? This vacancy has existed for four years.

It will be under four years.

I want to know if it will be four weeks or four months.
