Vol. 92 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding at Ballinrobe.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will undertake the removal of a weir crossing the Bulkaun River at the Bridge, Ballinrobe, or substitute a water-gate which can be opened in winter and spring to relieve flooding of hundreds of acres of arable land.

asked the Minister for Finance if steps are being taken to remove the weir crossing the river under the Keel Bridge near Ballinrobe to relieve the serious flooding caused by this weir.

I propose taking Questions 9 and 10 together.

The removal of the weirs to which the Deputy refers could be considered only as part of a general scheme of arterial drainage for the Corrib catchment area. No such scheme can be undertaken pending the enactment of the Arterial Drainage Bill.
