Vol. 92 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post-War Employment of Turf Workers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if turf workers who are at present prevented by ban from taking up employment in Britain will be given a preference in the post-war period in public works.

Government policy in the matter of preference of employment on works financed out of State funds must be related to circumstances prevailing at any particular time and consequently it would be inadvisable to make decisions on such policy in the post-war period until the circumstances are known, but I consider it improbable that the present practice of giving such preference on the basis of individual needs will be departed from.
