Vol. 92 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Parish Halls.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has received plans for the erection of parish halls in Lucan. Ballyboughal and Rathcoole, and, if so, if he will state when it will be possible to start the erection of these halls; and, further, if he can state if it is the intention of the County Commissioner (County Dublin) to erect further parish halls in County Dublin, and, if so, if he can state the location of these.

The Commissioner for Dublin County Council has had certain proposals for the provision of parish halls under consideration, but no specific plans have yet been decided upon. The shortage of building materials, in particular timber, make it impossible to commence building operations on such halls at the present time. As the Deputy is no doubt aware from recent announcements in the public Press, the Government has decided in view of the difficult conditions which may arise in the building industry in the period following the present emergency to make an immediate survey of all building and constructional projects which are contemplated for that period. The provision of parish halls will be duly considered in that connection at the appropriate time.
