Vol. 92 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he will acquire and make final settlement of the lands of Drunanagh East, Fitzgerald Estate, County Mayo.

The estate of D.G. Fitzgerald in County Mayo (one of the former Congested Districts Board's larger estates) comprises holdings in 38 townlands, including the lands of Drunanagh East. A great part of the estate has yet to be dealt with, by migration and rearrangement, before resale can take place, and the process is difficult and tedious and hampered by the present shortage of staff. Some migration has already taken place and the Land Commission propose to migrate several more of the tenants under the group migration scheme when suitable lands can be made available for them elsewhere. A large number of holdings on the Fitzgerald estate are in scattered patches and a comprehensive scheme of rearrangement will be required in order to utilise to the best advantage the vacated holdings of the migrants.

asked the Minister for Lands why the Land Commission has not completed the final settlement and subdivision of the holdings left by migrated tenants in the townland of Kiltharsechane, Moore estate, County Mayo.

Owing to present shortage of staff and difficulties of building houses the Land Commission have not yet been able to complete the rearrangement of the holdings in the townland of Kiltarsaghaun, on the estate of George A. Moore, which was taken over from the former Congested Districts Board.
