Vol. 92 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bog Development—Rate of Wages.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state the rate of wages paid by the Turf Development Board on bog development schemes in the County Kildare.

Bog workers employed by the Turf Development Board, Ltd., on the Government Camp Scheme in Kildare are paid at the rate of 35/- per week of 48 hours when engaged on operations requiring the application of a time rate. The work is carried out on piece rates in the main. Piece rates afford the opportunity to an average competent bog worker to earn at the rate of 25 per cent. in excess of the time rate.

Board and lodging are provided free for workers living in the camps.
