Vol. 92 No. 17

Written Answers. - Civil Service Marriage Differentiated Scales.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each grade in the Civil Service to which marriage differentiated scales apply—(a) total number of male officers; (b) number of single male officers; (c) number of female officers; (d) total number of male officers conditioned to marriage differentiated scales; (e) number of single male officers conditioned to marriage differentiated scales; (f) average age and basic salary at marriage of officers conditioned to marriage differentiated scales; (g) annual amounts payable to eligible officers in the years 1931, 1937 and 1943 by way of children's allowances; (h) number of children in respect of whom the amounts specified at (g) above were paid.

The latest date for which the information asked for at (a) and (c) in the question is available is 1st January, 1943. The information asked for at (b), (d) and (e) is available only for 1st January, 1942. The information required at (f), (g) and (h) could not be obtained without special inquiry from all Departments and its collection would involve considerable expense and expenditure of time which would not be justified in present circumstances. The figures available are given in the following statement, which shows under heads (a) and (c) the numbers as on 1st January, 1942, and 1st January, 1943:—
