Vol. 93 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Bog Plots.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission has received numerous requests from tenants on the Derrywoods Bog in the townlands of Garryhinch and Burranaghs, in the Barony of Philipstown Upper, County Offaly, to send an inspector to point out to the tenants where their plots of bog are on this estate; whether he is aware that Mountmellick Old I.R.A. Club are arranging to cut turf on this bog; and if the Land Commission will undertake immediately to show the various tenants where their bog plots are situated.

Turbary in the townlands of Garryhinch, Burranaghs, Clonyhurk and Magheranaskeagh previously held by trustees of a scheme under Sections 4 and 20, Irish Land Act, 1903, was in 1931 divided and allotted in separate plots to the beneficiaries under the scheme in accordance with a division arranged by the Land Commission. In connection with this division a general lock-spitting and pointing out of plots was carried out. The Land Commission have already had their plots indicated for a second time to several tenants and will be prepared, in order to facilitate turf cutting during the coming season, to do what they can to assist any other plot-holders who may have difficulty in identifying their plots, including plot-holders who may have made arrangements with the Mountmellick Old I.R.A. Club for the cutting of turf, but they would ask that applications for a visit of an inspector for this purpose should be sent to them without delay.
