Vol. 93 No. 14

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Scarcity of Sacks in County Mayo.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that there is a great scarcity of sacks amongst the farming community in Mayo, particularly in the coastal areas, and, as there is no licensed sack merchant in the county, whether he is now prepared to grant a permit under the Emergency Powers (Sacks) Order, 1941, to some suitable applicant from Mayo who would deal with the local needs of the county.

I have had no representations as to scarcity of sacks in the areas referred to by the Deputy. I am prepared to grant a Sack Merchant's licence to an applicant from County Mayo if, as provided by the Emergency Powers (Sacks) Order, 1941, the applicant carried on, prior to 1st January, 1941, the business of a sack merchant as defined in the Order.
