Vol. 94 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Razor Blades.

asked the Minister for Supplies whether any regulation is in force here or in Great Britain prohibiting the sending of small numbers of safety razor blades (suitably wrapped) and enclosed in letters to Irish workers in the United Kingdom; and, if so, if he will consider relaxing any such regulation which may exist here to permit such personal gifts to be sent.

The export of razor blades, by post or otherwise, is entirely prohibited by the Emergency Powers (Control of Export) Order, 1940. Because of the difficulty which is being experienced in obtaining raw materials from abroad, and the necessity of conserving supplies for home use, I regret that I cannot agree to permit the export of personal gifts of razor blades.
